Everywhere. That’s my answer if you ask me where I want to travel to. I tried making a list once, but it was basically just every city and country I could think of covering a notepad. Instead I did a 180, took everything off and started over making a “destination free” list. My favorite travel memories are of experiences rather than places themselves so that is how this list was born. Going somewhere just to go isn’t nearly as much fun as having a truly authentic local experience.
I loved Ireland, but what I really loved was learning about Irish Cheese from local farmers at Temple Bar Food Market. I LOVED Paris, but the best part was waking up every morning and having cafe creme at the same little cafe on the corner. It’s a little like travel planning backwards. So here is my list:
My Travel Experience Bucket List
- Go Riesling wine tasting in the Black Forest (Germany)
- Spend the night in Dracula’s Castle (Romania)
- Eat the original Sacher Torte at Hotel Sacher (Austria)
- Volunteer at the Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary (Indonesia)
- Experience Norsk Hostfest, a huge Scandinavian Festival (North Dakota, USA)
- Cruise the Nile River (Egypt)
- Wake up with Turkish coffee (Istanbul)
- Take in the exotic aromas of a spice market (Morocco)
- Buy tree ornaments at a Christmas Market (Munich)
- Find the ultimate Margarita pizza (Italy)
- Make a wish in the Trevi Fountain at sunset (Italy)
- Spend an entire day at the MET (New York City)
- Go wine tasting up the Pacific coast (Napa, California, USA)
- Eat southern food at the Olde Pink House (Savanah, Georgia, USA)
- Eat cherry everything at the National Cherry Festival (Traverse City Michigan, USA)

- Hike up a volcano (Hawaii, USA)
- Attend a Dia De Los Muertos Festival (Mexico)

Now I am going to challenge you to revamp your bucket list (or make one!) to include more experiences rather than specific destinations. I guarantee it will entice you to plan your next trip.
